13th Annual Vit-Buckle Society Annual Meeting

We are thrilled to announce the date for the 13th Annual Vit-Buckle Society (VBS) Annual Meeting. Please be sure to save the date! Our annual meeting will take place at the J.W. Marriott in Austin, TX from March 20-22, 2025! Active 2025 membership is required to attend the annual meeting.
Registration will be open to members in the coming months!

Submissions

Abstract and other submissions for the Vit-Buckle 2025 Annual Meeting are now open! If you have any questions, please contact us at vitbuckle.ea@gmail.com. Please note that applicants can apply to all, but can only be awarded one of the opportunities below. Active VBS membership is required for abstract submission. 

Podium Presentations

Attending retina physicians are eligible to submit a scientific surgical study, crazy surgical case video, or complication video for consideration for podium presentation. If accepted, the registration fee will be discounted. If not selected for a podium presentation, practicing retina specialists can opt to present as a poster while paying the standard registration fees. Submission deadline October 28th.

Poster Presentations

Medical students, residents and fellows are eligible to submit an abstract for a scientific (medical or surgical) study to be considered for a posterior presentation. The top presenters who are selected will be awarded a VBS Academic Grant (covering meeting registration for the 2025 VBS annual meeting, travel (up to $500), and shared lodging). Even if not selected for a grant, we welcome trainees to present at VBS through discounted trainee registration. The best posters will be awarded a coveted VBS Belt Buckle! Participants are expected to stay for the duration of the annual meeting. Submission deadline October 28th.

Fellows' Foray

US and International Fellows are eligible to submit a surgical video. Presenters who are selected will be awarded a VBS Academic Grant to cover meeting registration for the 2025 VBS annual meeting, travel (up to $500), and shared lodging. The 20 fellows who are awarded a travel grant, the top 8 winners will present their surgical video at the Fellows’ Program on March 20th, 2025. Moreover, the CONNECT Network will award the fellow who submitted the single best video the prestigious $1,500 CONNECT Network Grant and a VBS Belt Buckle. Participants are expected to stay for the duration of the annual meeting. Submission deadline October 28th.

Women's International Travel Grant

The Vit-Buckle Society is committed to supporting diversity in representation in the field of surgical retina. As such, VBS is happy to announce a program offering up to three travel grants for early-career female international (non-US) retinal surgeons to attend the 2025 VBS Annual Meeting March 20-22 in Austin, Texas. Interested applicants must submit a brief CV in English summarizing their educational background and a no longer than 90 second audio statement in English explaining their interest in retinal surgery and specific reasons to want to attend VBS 2025. Specific questions to address include: What has your clinical and academic experience been thus far as a VR surgeon? What do you hope to learn or gain from participating in the meeting? What do you hope to bring back home to your program, community and female colleagues? Participants are expected to stay for the duration of the annual meeting. Submission deadline August 31st

FOstering Careers for Underrepresented Stars (FOCUS)

The Vit-Buckle Society is committed to supporting diversity in the field of surgical retina. As such, VBS is excited to bring back the highly popular FOstering Careers for Underrepresented Stars (FOCUS) Program to increase the pipeline of people from backgrounds that are underrepresented in medicine. This includes medical students or ophthalmology residents interested in a career in surgical retina who identify as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latinx, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Southeast Asian (for example Cambodian, Laotian, Vietnamese, Hmong, Filipino) and individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+. Participants are expected to stay for the duration of the annual meeting. Submission deadline October 28th
